Oblique Arts present ‘Rethink Fashion’ on Friday 3rd September, 2021 at 7pm in the exciting Industrial setting of Cambridge Museum of Technology with the dream that in some small way this Fashion ‘Happening’ will act as a catalyst for change in the way that we consume ‘Fast Fashion’ in the World today. We hope to link the Fashion World with the current movement towards Environmental friendliness and Eco awareness, highlighting eco friendly values as Fashion consumers and slowing down exploitation within the clothing Industry as arguably the second biggest Global polluter after Fossil fuels.

The aim is to inspire enthusiasm and creativity in the way that people shop and dress, expressing individuality by using diverse Models and a love of both inclusivity and the environment. Our idea is to reject the massive Global ‘Fast Fashion’ Industry with a gentle reminder that the pollution is making the rivers and oceans toxic. Polyester bobbles are found deep in the ocean, and rivers are polluted from the dyes being used by the textile industry.

The show aims to inspire people to remember the DIY Punk ethos of the 1970’s and Second hand Grunge style of the 1990’s to create new looks whilst thinking of the ‘Love and Peace’ flower power message of the Hippy movement. ‘Rethink Fashion’ aims to celebrate countries of the World coming together to stop climate change, questioning the cheap copies of the major Fashion House’s designs as mass produced ‘status symbols’ and instead favouring clothes that represent money well spent in relation to the environment.

With many thanks to Oxfam, LT123, Cambridge Wine Merchants and Arts Council England and Polly Maunder for sponsoring this recycled Fashion show.
