Community Heritage Day

Saturday 19th September at Cambridge Museum of Technology

Discover the stories, nature, and people that make Abbey and Chesterton special. Join us for Community Heritage Day - a free celebration of our local area, shaped by the community and for the community.

Meet local heritage organisations and community groups who know our neighbourhood inside out. Explore hands-on activities that bring our shared history to life, chat with community members who are passionate about what makes this area unique, and connect with your neighbours over what we all love about living here.

This event is being organised by our Community Forum, made up of locals associated with Riverside Area Residents’ Association, Friends of Stourbridge Common, Friends of Logan’s Meadow, East Chesterton Women’s Institute, and St Andrew the Less Community Project (and many more!). The event will run as part of the Open Cambridge festival!

Free Museum Entry

Walk round the Museum for free, get immersed in Cambridge’s industrial past, and chat with our volunteers about our history as a volunteer driven museum!

Festival Stalls

We have a range of stalls at the event, ranging from information stalls to fun family activities! There’s something for everyone, and each will share insights about what they do and the local area!

Talk series

Throughout the day, we will have a series of talks geared towards older audiences. This will be in the Pye Building, and will give you an in depth look into what they get up to and the history of the area.

  • How to get here.

  • Food and drink can be found at our hospitality partnes, Hot Rocket (open all day) and the Engineer’s House (open from 12pm). Food and drink (including alcohol) purchased at either are welcome to be brought around the Community Heritage Day.

  • Four-legged friends welcome (and encouraged!). Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in our Museum and all it’s buildings. There are water bowls outside the ticket office and the Pye Building. We only ask dog owners to be considerate of other visitors who may not love dogs as much as we do.
