On 8 November 2022, Mill Road History Society presented a screening of the 2014 documentary “From the Front to the Backs: the story of the 1st Eastern General Hospital“, produced by the University of Cambridge and researched/presented by local historian Sarah Bayliss.
At approximately 17 minutes, the documentary features the role of Cambridge Instrument Company in the construction of then cutting-edge thermal-control apparatus in the bath ward. The technology enabled patients to recover through hydrotherapy.
The permanent exhibition about Cambridge Instrument Company at Cambridge Museum of Technology showcases many of the company’s other innovations in medical instrumentation and healthcare, from the electrocardiograph to the scanning-electron microscope.
